This call for proposals is part of the first and second component of the ZEAT-BEAD Programme, Zonal Effort for Agricultural Transformation – Bahal Gazar Effort for Agricultural Development. The overall objective of the Programme is to contribute to the improvement of food security and income of the population of South Sudan with the specific purpose of improved food security and income for rural small holders in consideration of the axial role and the important potential of small holders to boost the rural economy and reach a sustainable food security level in the country. The grant is worth €11.5 million.
Five components/results are set for ZEAT BEAD: 1. Facilitating, monitoring and regulating government structure 2. Sustainable supply of agriculture and livestock inputs and services through the private sector 3. Enhanced Local Value addition and strengthening value Chain 4. Improved basic technical literacy and numeracy skills 5. Increased Trade and marketing Volume.
The implementation of the above components started in January 2015.
Objectives of the programme and priority issues: – The global objective of this call for proposals is: to improve food security and income for rural small holders of South Sudan – The specific objective(s) of this call for proposals is/are: to enhance a sustainable supply of agriculture and livestock inputs and services through the private sector
Priorities: a) Enhance food production capacities by better access to inputs (seed and tools locally produced) and services (community extension/agents) b) Strengthening community based extension services, this shall promote: the use of good practices (including animal traction),postharvest losses reduction, sustainable value chains and marketing; c) Promote local inputs production (seeds and tools) to be locally marketed d) Increase livelihoods / work opportunities in the target communities.
